Tech. Sgt. Sean Simons, 49th Civil Engineer Squadron unit deployment manager, assisted during the beginning days of Operation Allies Welcome. The 49th CES and 635th Materiel Maintenance Group, assisted by volunteers from across Holloman Air Force Base, prepared set up living sites for initial capacities of up to 1,200 military personnel and 5,000 Afghan evacuees at the start of OAW. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Air Force video by Senior Airman Kristin Weathersby)
