September is National Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month. Every year, thousands of lives are lost by suicide and many more are impacted by its ripple effects. Within our military community, suicide is an epidemic that has caused an alarming increase of deaths amongst service members, especially veterans.
The Air Force Wounded Warrior (AFW2) Wellness and Resiliency team organized a 2.2 mile walk at JBSA-Randolph Heritage Park to commemorate the 22 veterans that die by suicide each day. Suicide survivor and AFW2 section lead for wellness, resiliency, and community programs, Armando Franco, sheds lights on his own experience and the struggle with taking the first step towards recovery.
