    Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency

The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, or commonly known as the “Punchbowl” because of the crater that was created more than 75,000 years ago from volcanic activity, the Hawaiian name appropriately translates to “Hill of Sacrifice.” The tranquil cemetery provides a scenery that invokes a peaceful yet somber emotion that brings one to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Among these are the more than 1800 Unknowns from World War II and 450 from the Korean War who are interred here. This is where the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs have been working together to bring answers to families and to provide the fullest possible accounting for our missing personnel to their families and the nation.
