Colonel Christopher L. Tomlinson took command of U.S. Army Garrison Japan following a change-of-command ceremony held July 20th at Camp Zama, Japan. U.S. service men and women, members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force; and various other representatives and government officials from both the U.S. and Japan were in attendance.

Colonel Thomas R. Matelski, the outgoing USAG Japan commander, is departing Japan after two years, and will move on to be the Chief of the Civil Affairs Planning Team, J9, at U.S. Indo-Pacific Command in Hawaii.

Narration:
Tomlinson began his military career as an enlisted Soldier in 1986, before later being commissioned as an officer. Since then, he has been assigned to numerous leadership positions in the military intelligence field, including as the Director of Intelligence, J2, for the Special Operations Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria. He also deployed to Iraq as part of the Army’s first interrogation battalion.
