A short video created for social media by the Hampton Roads Naval Museum as part of their Women in the Navy Series. This video looks at Lenah Higbee, who joined the Navy Nurse Corps in 1908, becoming one of the first twenty women to do so. This group of women was known as the "Sacred Twenty." Higbee was a leader in the Navy Nurse Corps, lobbying for equal pay for the nurses as well as health care for military dependents. Her 14-year Navy career included World War I and dealing with the Spanish Influenza epidemic. Learn more about Higbee's contributions to the Navy in this short video.
