Luke Airmen came together to give a surprise birthday visit to U.S. Air Force MSgt (ret) Ruth Heeler to sing happy birthday on her 100th birthday April 24, 2020, at The Inn at Freedom Plaza in Peoria, AZ. Ruth served 10 years as a combat photographer. In 1966 as a TSgt she was the only WAF to be placed on flying status and received her rating as a crew member noting she was the ONLY woman to be flying as a crew member in the Air Force at that time. Another “first” in her career was being the first woman to complete the ADC Life Support School receiving survival training the same as men, for land, air, and water.
