Senior leaders of the Army Medicine met on Jan. 28, 2020, which was day two of the Army Medicine Senior Leaders Forum. The forum was held at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and involved about 350 leaders. The leaders continued to discuss issues related to the transformation of Army Medicine and the way ahead to ensure optimal medical readiness for soldiers and all military medical beneficiaries.
The Surgeon General opened day two of the forum by reminding the attendees to excel at execution, that they had to be leader decathletes, and that they had to play chess, rather than checkers. As strategic leaders, they had to understand the strategic landscape in order to operationalize their mission. “It’s like a multi-level chess board,” Dingle said. “You have to be a versatile decathlete” to understand the issues, whether it’s the coronavirus, integrated critical task lists, or any other of the challenges we face.
