The inaugural Air Force Materiel Command Women’s Leadership Symposium was held November 13-14, 2019 in Dayton, OH. The symposium was created in order to educate Airmen and the community on the importance of developing, supporting and retaining female leaders through diversity and the cultivation and leadership of inclusive teams. The symposium provided professional development opportunities and meaningful mentor relationships for military members, civilians in the community, and all leaders, regardless of gender, interested in bolstering and empowering women in leadership roles.
The theme of the 2019 conference is “Embrace, Encourage, Empower” and focuses on embracing roadblocks and stereotypes women face in the workforce; encouraging inclusive and diverse opportunities; and empowering women to obtain and maintain leadership roles. Through mentorship and networking opportunities, inspirational key-note speakers, Q&A panel discussions and interactive breakout sessions, participants dialogued about, and gained insight into, how can we better recruit, support and retain women in leadership.
