Weston Cross, a coastal geologist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, explains the purpose of the bi-annual Presque Isle beach walk with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources October 29, 2019 at Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pennsylvania. The purpose of the walk was to check on the effectiveness of the 2019 Beach Nourishment Project and to set a baseline for the 2020 Beach Nourishment. The two organizations have worked together for the past 27 years to replenish the sand on the beaches every year. This year, a record 74,000 cubic yards of sand was placed to replenish the beaches.
