LAE, Papua New Guinea -- U.S. Marines and sailors with I Marine Expeditionary Force conducted a community relations event at the Salvation Army School in Lae, Papua New Guinea, Sept. 30th, 2019, during Exercise Koa Moana 19. Female service members also conducted a key leadership exchange with senior leaders of the Papua New Guinea Defense Force and spoke with women at the nearby Jim Jacobsen Women’s Center for victims of domestic violence or human trafficking. Marines and sailors distributed supplies such as toiletries, toys and knitting material at the center. Koa Moana serves as a joint training exercise between I MEF and the Papua New Guinea Defense Force to improve relationships and interoperability within the Indo-Pacific Region.
