The final groups of 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team Soldiers returned to Mississippi, Saturday, April 6 after serving in Kuwait in support of Operation Spartan Shield. Approximately 275 Guardsmen arrived at the 172d Airlift Wing from their demobilization station at Fort Bliss, Texas. Overall, approximately 3,250 Soldiers deployed overseas for the mission. The troops were mobilized for approximately one year. The 155th ABCT mobilized for duty in support of Operation Spartan Shield in April 2018. Spartan Shield is a combined forces contingency operation designed to deter and react to possible threats in the Middle East region. During the deployment, the 155th ABCT has contributed support to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), participated in numerous Theater Security Cooperation exercises, and operated in 13 countries throughout the U.S. Central Command operations area.
