    U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit

Since its just a few more days until the 2019 U.S. Army Small Arms Championship kicks off here at US Army Fort Benning, we are looking back at the action from 2018.

In this video, U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. 1st Class Brian Ehlschlager with the 108th Training Command (Initial Entry Training) speaks about his experience at the 2018 All Army and why he feels the competition is important.

Ehlschlager, who is a civilian police officer in Huntersville, North Carolina, trains regularly on pistol marksmanship, but the All Army competition offered him some great trigger time on the rifle. This Army Reserve Soldier also mentions that, as a drill sergeant, the competition is invaluable.

The #AllArmy2019 is an annual, comprehensive live-fire training event that tests Soldiers ability to employ both primary and secondary weapon systems, problem solve, and think critically under the stresses created by competition. While the elements and spirit of competition are important, the Army's critical intent of the competition in arms program is to develop marksmanship skills at the entry and intermediate level and recognize superior skill at the highest levels, all while raising the standards of marksmanship and increasing lethality across the entire force.

This week-long training event that is cleverly distiguished as a competition brings more than 260 Soldiers from across the United States, and from all components: active duty, Reserve, National Guard and ROTC, to the base to compete in rifle, pistol and multigun courses of fire.
