Members of the 156th Airlift Squadron from the 145th Airlift Wing Participated in a Mission Readiness Airlift exercise this past weekend.

The pilots, along with the Loadmasters and Crew chief, transported Soldiers from the North Carolina Army National Guards 30th Armored Brigade Combat team from Fort Bragg to Gulfport, Mississippi for a training exercise.

SB: Technical Sergeant Alejandro Armendariz "We transported the personnel and all their equipment that they need. C-17 is a versatile aerospace vehicle that allows us to transport individuals or equipment to wherever they need, wherever they need in the world in a timely manner. And thats what we did."

Having the C-17 Globemaster opens the door to many more opportunities for the Air National Guard.

SB: Technical Sergeant Alejandro Armendariz "The C-17 makes us more versatile. We can take on more equipment, bigger equipment than we could with the C-130. The C-130 was great, and the places it could operate, it could operate in places the C-17 can't. But the C-17 can do a lot more than the C-130 can."

This exercise had a special meaning for Sergeant Armendariz.

SB: Technical Sergeant Alejandro Armendariz "The highlight for me is, it was my first solo trip as a crew chief. I flew by myself and i was able to take care of the plane and handle it effectively and timely. Make sure I provided a good product for my customers which is the operations squadron. And, also the Army we provided the platform for them to get their mission done."

Reporting from the 145th Airlift Wing in Charlotte, North Carolina, I’m Airman Juan Paz
