The Corps and its partners conducted controlled ecological burns at several locations in the Willamette Valley this fall. This burn was near Dorena Reservoir.
Partners for the burns included the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service.
We use burns to manage and restore natural areas.
Burns also benefit plant and animal communities, particularly endangered plants and butterflies (Fenders Blue butterflies and Bradshaw's Lomatium), and oak and prairie habitat.
Experienced and highly-trained fire crews manage these burns using detailed burn plans, which provide maximum protection for the community. The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency reviews and approves the plans and specifies the conditions the burns can proceed.
