Norwegian Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Runi Sommer, Head of the Norwegian Liaison to Joint
Logistics Support Group and Sessvollmoen, Norway Base Commander:

“I think that first you need to get the troops on ground. So, you need to train and exercise on
the Reception, Staging, and Onward Movement for the troops coming into theater. The
exercise Trident Juncture gives us good expertise and training with that matter. And of course,
you’re going to have to redeploy, so you’re going to have to train on that as well. In a couple of
day now we’re ending the RSOM operation and we start on the redeployment part of it. So, a
lot of good training going on. We will test our airports, we’ll test our seaports, we’ll test our
railheads, and we’ll also test our main supply routes throughout the middle and southern part
    of Norway.

Norway where we are training now is huge distances. Just to give you an example, if you take
the northern part of Norway and turn it upside down you end up in Rome so Norway is a quite
narrow country but it’s a long country so we are talking distances here and that’s why the field
installations and the trucks coming in here to do the convoy operations are so essential in order
to get the troops to where they are supposed to be when the exercise starts, which is today,
    the 25 th of October.”

“For Norway it’s first training our host nation support capability. In Norway we operate in a
concept called the total defense concept so here in our national joint HQ we have liaisons from
the road authorities, the rail authorities, and the airport authorities and a lot of the other
governmental institutions of Norway to facilitate this huge NATO exercise and again our main
    effort is host nation support.”

“It’s important to host this big exercise in Norway in the period of October soon getting into
November. One of the training objects is doing winter warfare and of course the road
conditions and the weather conditions we must pay close attention to so my biggest hope for
this exercise is that the outcome will be good and we can do it without fatal injuries when it
comes to road accidents. Welcome to Norway.”
