EAST CHINA SEA (Oct. 14, 2018) Sailors assigned to amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) and Naval Beach Unit 7 work with Marines assigned to 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in order to conduct integrated insertion and extraction of personnel during small boat training at sea. The training tested the ability of SH60S Sea Hawk helicopters assigned to the “Island Knights” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 to deploy Marines at sea where they were recovered by combat rubber raiding crafts and landing craft, air cushion and transported back to the Wasp. Wasp, flagship of Wasp Amphibious Ready Group, with embarked 31st MEU, is operating in the Indo-Pacific region to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
