Hurlburt Field bought a boat for $1 and plan to restore it; filling a gap in localized CV-22 deck-landing qualifications. A new boat would have cost approximately $22 Million. The project and training is projected to save the Air Force approximately $3 Million per year in operating and travel costs for CV-22 pilots. Additionally, the addition of the boat provides flexibility for training for squadron commanders and pilots to ensure deck-landing proficiency.
