KALAELOA-Hawaii Army National Guard soldiers say their goodbyes to friends and family at a deployment ceremony in Kalaeloa, Hawaii. These soldiers from Company B , 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment and Detachment 1, Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment are headed to South-West Asia to support U.S. Army aviation missions. For soldiers like Specialist Wainani Johnson-Carter, she leaves behind a seven-year-old daughter as the she deploys for the first time. This mission is part of the largest series of deployments for Hawaii Army National Guard soldiers in nearly a decade. Over 1000 soldiers leaving for various missions overseas from now until 2020. Company B, 171st Aviation Regiment and Detachment 1, Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment will be utilizing their training, experience and skills while operating their aircraft in a combat environment during their deployment in south-west Asia.
