During 2017, through-out the state of Hawaii, Vietnam Veterans where honored as the country marked the 50th anniversary of the pacific war. The Hawaii Army National Guards 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team also honored its Vietnam Veterans who were mobilized with the brigade.

However, one the 29th brigade’s veterans was left out. Specialist Tom Peterson, who after initially starting his military career in the Army Reserves, transferred to the Hawaii Army National Guard’s 29 Brigade and served out of the Armory in Molokai before deploying to Vietnam. Peterson called the Hawaii National Guards Public Affairs Office with a simple request. He wanted to know if his dog tags from 1968 where in a lost and found box. Mr Peterson was only expecting to pick-up a new set of dog tags from the front desk but instead he received, the welcome home he never got, as Col. Macaraeg and his entire full-time brigade staff formed up to honor one of their own. Peterson was presented with 2 sets of Dog-Tags, a Vietnam Veteran Commemoration Pin, a pair of 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team patches and a 29th IBCT Command coin.
