Snow continues to pile up and there is no break in this weekends forecast for residents of Western Iowa. Airmen from the Iowa Air National Guard are presented with minor setbacks as winter weather continues to blanket air operations at the Sioux City Airport.
Regardless of weather conditions, airplanes assigned to the 185th Air Refueling Wing must continue to fly. Crew chiefs from the185th Air Refueling Wing have been battling this weeks weather to clear snow and ice from the KC-135 aircraft assigned to the Sioux City, Iowa based Air National Guard unit.
Trucks equipped with deicing machines at the base remove snow and ice from the airplanes by blowing hot air along with heated deicing fluids in order to prepare the aircraft for flight.
The unit has two maintenance hangars, however most of the aircraft are regularly parked outside. Because of continuous missions requirements and maintenance schedules all of the units aircraft must be constantly mission capable regardless of the weather.
