2. (00:16) SOUNDBITE (SPANISH) – PRIVATE CRISTO MANUEL LASSO RODRIGUEZ, SPANISH ARMY
“Hi, I am the Private Cristo Manuel Lasso Rodriguez. I am deployed in the Latvian tactical subgroup. I belong to the first section of Fusiliers. I’d like to wish my family and friends a merry Christmas. I’d also like to wish a merry Christmas to all the military personnel deployed on mission and to all the military personnel in Spain.”
3. (00:35) SOUNDBITE (SPANISH) – PRIVATE ABRAHAM SANCHEZ MARTIN, SPANISH ARMY
“I’ll celebrate with all my colleagues that are like my family here. It’s the first time that I am deployed outside of Spain and the first time I will spend [Christmas] without my family. It’s different because, even though we get along very well with my colleagues, it’s not the same spending Christmas with my family or with them. I usually spend a lot of time with my family, we eat together, we celebrate with music. I talk with my family every day. I tell them not to worry, that I like it here, that I feel as good as I would there. On Christmas Day, the whole family eats together, my brothers, my parents, my grandparents, my uncles, all together.”
2. (01:25) SOUNDBITE (SPANISH) – PRIVATE CRISTO MANUEL LASSO RODRIGUEZ, SPANISH ARMY
“I will celebrate Christmas with my colleagues. We are like a family here. The only way to celebrate is to gather with all the colleagues and having a great time. Usually, I celebrate with all my family. We eat together and enjoy this period that only happens once a year. We celebrate with people we love the most. The difference is that there, we celebrate with the whole family and go from houses to houses to visit all the people we love, congratulating everyone, and here, we have to do this from far away through the phone or the internet.”
