The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and eight teams -- with groups ranging from hobbyists to universities and tech companies -- worked to develop programs and possible applications using software-defined radio during the Bay Area Hackfest at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Calif., from Nov. 13-17, 2017. DARPA aims to make pivotal investments in breakthrough technologies for national security. This hackfest was designed to explore and better understand the complex relationships being created within the electromagnetic spectrum and examine in particular the cyber-physical intersection of software-defined radio and remotely piloted aircraft.
