“Today was a prayer and a mass for peace celebrated by Pope Francis here at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery. It’s the first ever event of the Pope visiting an ABMC site. Sicily-Rome is one of 26 ABMC military cemeteries overseas. The Pope traditionally shares a message of peace, and this year for the first time in ABMC history he chose an ABMC site to come. And again looking out over 7,800 headstones, this is a perfect place I think to come and share a message of peace, a message of hope, a message to understand the cost of war.”
