U.S. Marines from Battery R, 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment conduct sea-based expeditionary fires (S-BEF) employment using a High Mobility Rocket System (HIMARS) from the flight deck of the USS Anchorage (LPD 23), successfully impacting the designated land target on San Clemente Island, off the coast of Southern California, during Exercise Dawn Blitz, Oct. 22, 2017. Dawn Blitz 17 provides 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade and Expeditionary Strike Group 3 the opportunity to validate a capability that will allow the commanders more flexibility when choosing how to strike a target with precision.
