The U.S. is working together with the Philippines to strengthen the alliance and to ensure that it responds to the evolving security environment of the 21st century, promoting security and stability for all the nations in the region. Five out of seven Mutual Defense Treaty Alliances exists in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
The U.S. government works with the Armed Forces of the Philippines to increase combat capabilities through security assistance and training. U.S. Pacific Command has about 200 – 300 military personnel to support counter terrorism training with the Philippines through regular bilateral exercises and activities. The number of U.S. forces in the Philippines fluctuates as missions require and in consultation with the government of the Philippines.
The U.S. Government also continues to help train, advise, and assist the Philippines security forces in their fight against violent extremist organizations. During this challenging fight, we (The United States) will stand by the people of the Philippines and continue to uphold our commitments to the Philippines under the Mutual Defense Treaty.
