U.S. Marines with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment and members of the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force work side-by-side firing 81mm mortars during exercise Northern Viper 17 in Chitose, Japan on August 15, 2017. These live fires helped strengthen the Marines and JGSDF’s techniques and procedures of these high powered systems.
