Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit land on Freshwater Beach in the Shoalwater Bay Training Area on July 19 during exercise Talisman Saber. Once the beach was secured by the pre-landing force made up of US Marines and Australian soldiers from 2RAR's Boat Platoon, the main force of Marines landed in Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAVs), Landing Craft Air Cushioned hovercrafts (LCACs), LCM landing craft and V-22 Ospreys.
The Talisman Saber series of exercises is the principal Australian and United States Military training activity, focused on planning and conducting mid-intensity ‘high-end’ war fighting.
