Battle Group Poland UK Soldiers inspect their Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) near the Bemowo Piskie Training Area during Saber Strike 17 June 12, 2017. MILES is used by the U.S. military and other armed forces around the world for training purposes. It uses lasers and blank cartridges to simulate actual battle. Saber Strike 17 is a U.S. Army Europe-led multinational combined forces exercise conducted annually to enhance the NATO alliance throughout the Baltic region and Poland. This year’s exercise includes integrated and synchronized deterrence-oriented training designed to improve interoperability and readiness of the 20 participating nations’ militaries.
