Using the Coastal Research Amphibious Buggy, researchers at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center's Field Research Facility at Duck, N.C., collect simultaneous observations of the shapes of waves as they break, and the sediment they transport in 6-foot waves as part of ERDC’s Military Engineering Basic Research Program. This research will enable the Corps of Engineers and Army to better simulate changes in seafloor morphology and surf-zone conditions —information which enhances flood risks management, predictions of storm damages, and geospatial intelligence during operations over the shore.
