    Narration:
Seven buglers from the seven-week bugle-training program at Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s 4th Engineer Group on Camp Zama recently visited the U.S. Army Japan Band to learn about the basics of bugle performance.

Interview: Capt. Kazutaka Yokota, Training Officer, 4th Engineer Group, JGSDF
We rotate hosting this program every year among the units belonging to the 1st Engineer Brigade. The program is for new volunteer bugle players to learn the basics of playing the bugle. Since this is our turn to host the event we thought it would be a great opportunity for younger Soldiers to have a chance to work with the U. S. Army Japan Soldiers and learn from them since we are co-located here on Camp Zama and work very closely everyday.

    Narration:
During the two day practice with the USARJ Band, Staff Sergeant Joel Heredia, a trumpet performer taught students step by step, the basics of playing bugle from tonguing to proper breathing technique. He also gave individuals advice by showing them what they need to improve on when they play the bugle with the JGSDF.

Interview: Staff Sgt. Joel Heredia, Trumpet, U.S. Army Japan Band

Interview: Sgt. Kazunari Nozawa, Bugle Trainer, 390 Engineer Company, 4th Engineer Group
Before I came here I taught them to play the bugle with all their force. However, after spending these past two days with the USARJ Band we learned many basic bugle-playing techniques which will be very beneficial for my students to progress to the next level.

Interview: Pfc. Yuto Kobayashi, 306 Engineer Unit, 1st Engineer Brigade
I was very fortunate to receive classes from the U.S. Army Japan band and I appreciate our unit giving me this opportunity. I learned many new techniques so this was very beneficial for me.

    Narration:
After they finish with their seven-week bugle training program they will return to their home units and start playing the bugle at various events.

Interview: Staff Sgt. Joel Heredia, Trumpet, U.S. Army Japan Band
