Video by Master Sgt. Carl Clegg

    South Carolina National Guard

Members of the 178th Field Artillery Battalion, 678th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, South Carolina Army National Guard, test fire brand new gun tubes on the M-109 A6 Paladin 155mm Howitzer at McCrady Training Center, Eastover, South Carolina, Jan. 27, 2017. The crew of soldiers exits the Paladin once the first round is loaded into the breech and a 50-foot lanyard is attached to the firing mechanism. The lanyard is a safety precaution in the event there is a malfunction with the new tube. All 12 of the guns fire successfully and the unit plans to take the guns on a live-fire annual training event later this year.
At 3:53 Spc. Terry Floyd of Manning, SC, pulls the lanyard to fire a test round from his Paladin.
