On 18 October 2016 Maj. General Joseph M Martin assumed the duties as Commanding General of 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley, KS, in a ceremony at Cavalry Parade Field at Fort Riley. Maj. Gen. Martin received the colors from LTG Sean MacFarland, Commanding General of III Corps. As a part of the ceremony, 1st Inf. Division cased its Colors in preparation for deployment.
