Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) arrived in the Aegean Sea in February 2016. It is conducting reconnaissance, monitoring and surveillance in the territorial waters of Greece and Turkey, as well as in international waters.
NATO ships are making a difference in the international efforts to deal with the greatest refugee and migrant crisis facing Europe since the end of the Second World War, providing real-time information to the coast guards of Greece and Turkey, as well as Frontex. This is helping them take effective action.
Spokespeople from NATO, Frontex, the European Commission and Turkish and Greek national assets talk about the NATO mission in the Aegean Sea.
NATO is supporting Allies Greece and Turkey, as well as the European Union, to tackle the refugee and migration crisis. But how is its rapid deployment of ships in the Aegean Sea helping to coordinate fast responses to illegal trafficking?
This is the script of a NATOChannel story. The international version (WITHOUT VOICEOVER) contains the same visuals and sound bites as the edited story, but without voiceover and/or graphics.
