The chain of wetlands, built in partnership with the city of Dallas beside the Trinity River, is performing its hydraulic function of helping drain floodwater after winter rains. It is part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fort Worth District's ongoing Dallas Floodway Extension Project. The wetlands have a dual function of flood risk management and ecosystem restoration, which brings high-quality wildlife habitat to an urban environment.
