‘It’s the natural evolution of twenty years worth of a partnership for peace effort. So this thing started out as ‘Peace Shield’ in about 95’ and now here we are twenty years later with the manifestation of a rock solid relationship between two different armies. We’ve added in another sixteen nations for an eighteen nation exercise and I think it makes a strong statement.’
‘So for the Ukrainian’s I’ve noticed a tremendous difference in attitude from two years ago. Two years ago was good training, well done, serious but relatively routine in attitude. The atmosphere has changed very much from last year and again this year, and you see the Ukrainian’s put a very serious cast on what they’re doing.”
    17. (04:25) SOUNDBITE IN ENGLISH: US ARMY EVENT SPEAKER:
‘At the opening ceremony we formed according to our own national colours. After two weeks of shoulder to shoulder training and training lanes and a field training exercise we now stand as one nation, a unit, a multinational, distinct, uniformed in language but defined in command and organization.’
‘This formation represent the difficulties, joys and satisfaction that came from conducting a field training exercise with friends and partners. Now we’re all soldiers standing by one another.”
    18. (04:54) SOUNDBITE IN ENGLISH: US ARMY COLONEL ALRED RENZI, CHIEF OF ASSESMENTS FOR US ARMY EUROPE OPERATIONS DIRECTORATE.
‘You came here, you formed the Brigade staff, four battalion staffs and multinational companies, and then you went to the field. / No one can predict the future but the best way to be prepared is to do exactly what you’ve done these past two weeks. / I congratulate you on job well done and I thank our hosts, the army of Ukraine, who went out of their way to provide a great training opportunity.”
