U.S. Army Reserve paralegal soldiers train in their soldiering and paralegal skills at Fort McCoy, Wisc. During this two week course soldiers spend time in the classroom sharpening their skills as paralegals and then get the chance to put that knowledge into practice during their field exercise. In the field portion, soldiers must use their leadership and soldier skills to capture a village and setup a local Judge Advocate General (JAG) office to process actions that pertain to the battlefield. Soldiers provide security and work through various legal situations such as claims for lost property, handling investigations over violations for rules of engagements, protecting the rights of the locals and other various JAG duties.
