Script: Major General Gregory Vadnay, The Adjutant General for Michigan presented a package of ‘Macbook Pros’ to Dr. Andra Greitane [An-Druh Gray-Duhn-uh] director of the Mes esam lidzas [Mace, Ahssum Lee-dzahs] Children’s Rehabilitation Center as part of the Michigan National Guard partnership visit to Riga Latvia.

Script: The hospital specializes in the care and treatment of children
with neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy and autism. This partnership between the rehabilitation center and the Michigan National Guard spans over twenty years to the benefit of hundreds of children.

Gen Vadnais: This is a great initiative that dates back to the 1990s.
I was here back in1999 when the program was still up and growing, and we became involved under the leadership of General Gordy Stump.
Script: This is a long term relationship with a focus on maintaining the existing programs and facilities of the center

Andre: The contribution is a very long-term one, and the Michigan National Guard has helped us with ongoing programs, to keep our programs going.
Script: The Michigan National Guard has contributed to the center in many ways, from infrastructure enhancements to IT and technology to financial support for essential operations.

Script: Future plans being considered include assessment of the heating system, insulation and window replacements as well as the purchase of specialized physical therapy equipment. “Mes esam lidzas” [Mace, Ahssum Lee-dzahs ] translated means “we are near”; and there is no doubt that the Soldiers and Airman of the Michigan National Guard are near to the mission of this center
