U. S. Africa Command is committed to maintaining a strong military relationship with our partners in the continent. Air Force Staff Sergeant Will Bracy found a group of airmen who showed their Moroccan partners how they assist aircraft in times of need.

There is barely any shade at the flight line in Ben Guerir Air Base in the Kingdom of Morocco. The temperature is one-hundred eight degrees, and rising. That does not stop airmen from testing a temporary cable barrier.

Very exciting, it was incredible, actually first time actually seeing a certification…

Senior airman Sean Rhew (roo) did not start out saving jets.

I love my job. This is exciting. Um, actually I’m electrical power production, and this is a specialty of our job. So not everyone actually gets to do this.
VO: (00:38:25)
After the jet stops, the line must be checked.
SrA Rhew: (00:42:08)
We are looking for any tears or abrasions in the tape. Uh, on the outside, uh, in the center, there is a yellow strand, of tape, and if you see that, it’s automatically bad.
VO: (00:54:00)
The airmen find a tear that needs additional attention.
SrA Rhew: (00:58:14)
They are, um, cutting the bad tape off and reweaving so we can do another engagement.
VO: (01:07:06)
Even though the barrier had a rip, Airman Rhew says everything went according to plan.
SrA Rhew: (01:12:27)
We have been waiting for this certification…so now that it’s certified, now we can catch any planes now. Fighters…anything with a tailhook, we can catch…

The airmen showed their Moroccan partners that this system is able to assist their aircraft with emergency situations in the future.
