U.S. Marines with Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Battalion Landing Team (BLT), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conduct weapons training aboard the hangar bay of the forward deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD-2). The 31st MEU's involvement is part of a larger U.S. government response, after a 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Japan causing wide spread damage.
