Soldiers assigned to the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell, Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and 86th Combat Support Hospital competed to obtain the coveted Expert Field Medical Badge Sept. 14 - 17 at Fort Campbell. Seventeen Blanchfield Army Community Hospital Soldiers trained and performed tasks hoping to earn one of the toughest badges in the Army.
The 86th Combat Support Hospital commander Col. Edward "Ned" Bailey explained that the Expert Field Medical Badge is a tremendous opportunity for the Army Medical Department to train medical skills, whether they are in a Forces Command (FORSCOM) unit or a Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) unit. Going through the course enables Soldiers to improve their medical skills, demonstrate their efficiency and if they meet the standard to earn the coveted Expert Field Medical Badge. "It's a tremendous training opportunity for me as a commander," Bailey said. "This enhances the training they have already done with their units."
The tests consist of a written test, lanes, land navigation and a road
march. "We get to see the entire spectrum, it's not just what their Soldier skills are, it's what their physical skills are." It is considered the hardest badge in the Army. According to Bailey, "The Expert Infantry Badge and EFMB are equally tough." — in Fort Campbell, KY.
