A hobby can be a great way to remain resilient and grow as an Airman. Senior Airman Robbie Waggoner has a story about one Staff Sergeant who’s hobby benefits all those around her.

Staff Sergeant Jessica Quinones loves to sew. She’s happiest when she is all alone by her sewing machine with a needle and thread.

SB:
I’ve been sewing since I was little, since I was two years old I was sitting in my moms lap and it’s just in me. I get to make new things and be creative, if there’s something I can’t find in the store, I can make it, I can just do whatever I want, its pretty awesome.
When she arrived at her first duty station they asked her what she liked to do in her off time, so she told them.
SB:
They said oh really? So that first month I was really busy and I would bring my sewing machine in and knock out all the requests and be like here you go.
She’s been lending her skill to help other airmen ever since.
SB:
Oh goodness, I probably do three or four stripes a month, name tapes, career badges. And I’ve been in for five years so, there you go. If I’m feeling particularly stressed, I’ll be like you know what I’m just going to work on my project and be good to go, it takes my mind off of other things and I just concentrate on the sewing.
So if you are out by the dorms sometime and you hear this sound.

Yeah I measured a whole bunch to make sure it was in the right place, I wasn’t nervous as much, but I just had to make sure it was in the right place.

I made my last two years Halloween costumes , I made a queen of hearts steam punk kind of thing, and then I made a hunger games one, Catmus’s wedding dress with feathers.
