International humanitarian assistance response from more than 15 nations came soon after the Philippine government requested aid. The United States has delivered nearly 2,000 tons of relief supplies and evacuated thousands of people. The United States Pacific Command liaison for Armed Forces of the Philippines, Colonel Restituto Padilla Jr, gave reaction on behalf of his country to the outpouring of international help following this natural disaster.
