Interview with Specialist John Mele (from Union City, TN) who was with Sergeant First Class Paul Ray Smith (from Tampa, FL) when he was killed in action at the Baghdad Airport on April 3, 2003, after his unit, 11th Engineer Battalion (Task Force 2-7), 3rd Infantry Division, came into contact with the enemy. SFC Smith received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions. SPC Mele recounts the events of that night, talks about the kind of Soldier and leader SFC Smith was, and gives his reaction to SFC Smith receiving the nation's highest military honor.
