On June 12, 2012 the Dredge William A. Thompson departed from Fountain City, Wis. for her last voyage to Prairie du Chien, Wis. There, Executive Director of Community Development Alternatives, a nonprofit group has a great vision for the future of the dredge.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers used the Thompson to maintain 850 miles of the Upper Mississippi River, 335 miles of the Illinois River and other inland rivers from May 1937 until May 2005.
