More than 40,000 runners converged on Indianapolis, May 5, 2012, for the 36th annual running of the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. The Indiana National Guard and the Indiana Guard Reserve were strategically placed along the route to guarantee that the runners were protected from cross-traffic and offer assistance in the form of litter-bearers to assist the medics and treat those overcome by 80-plus degree temperatures and near 100 percent humidity. Video story shot and produced by Michael Krieg, Indiana National Guard Public Affairs Office.
