The Iowa Air National Guard is the first U.S. F-16 squadron to be based at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan. The 451st Expeditionary Fighter Squadron is responsible for close air support for Soldiers on the ground as well as conducting other combat missions in the region to ensure peace and stability in the Kandahar province.
