For the first time since its inception Fort Jackson played host to the Installation Management Command's Atlantic region Best Warrior Competition.
Nineteen soldiers from nine different installations competed to be named the region's top NCO and top enlisted soldier.
The four-day event held March 19 – 22, tested soldiers physically as well as mentally.
The nine events included land navigation, a six-mile road march, a combatives tournament, a run through the fit-to-win obstacle course, as well as a multi-task lane designed to test the soldiers knowledge of their warrior tasks and battle drills.
Sgt. Ryan Mason of U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Drum, N.Y., was named the region's NCO of the Year, and Spc. Keef Turner of U.S. Army Garrison, West Point, N.Y., was named the region's Soldier of the Year.
They will now compete at the IMCOM competition to be held in San Antonio, Texas, in late April.
