As the men and women of the Vermont Air National Guard face twenty-first century technology and new missions, we stop to look back at the history of the 158th Fighter Wing and how we arrived where we are today.
There are still a few little reminders to the organization founded on July 12th, 1946. However, the unit is no longer dependent on outdated equipment or viewed by our sister services as a bunch of weekend warriors. The 158th Fighter Wing has become a vital part of the "Total Force" concept and has made a reputable name for themselves across this state and the nation.
Despite the changes and milestones in technology reached since their creation, the one element that remains the same is the indomitable human spirit of the proud men and women of the "Green Mountain Boys".
