While updated Department of the Air Force Physical Fitness Assessment standards do not take effect until July 1, Airmen assigned to the 163d Operations Support Squadron have already spent the last eight months adapting their training to meet the changes ahead, March Air Reserve Base, Calif., June 24, 2026. The new standards reintroduce a scored body composition component using the waist-to-height ratio program and add a two-mile run as part of the assessment, creating a more demanding evaluation designed to better measure overall fitness. Although the annual fitness assessment requirement for Air National Guard members remains unchanged, leaders within the squadron saw an opportunity to prepare early and build a more resilient, consistent approach to fitness.
