Florida Army National Guard members, Lt. Col. Brian Cooper and Sgt. Lana Waler, with the 1-111th General Support Aviation Battalion, provided ground support during Operation Florida Migration Support, March 20, 2024. The mission was conducted to support the state's response to an anticipated influx of migrant activity. SOCOM Athlete, run by Jason Sweets, a former Air Force special operations Paratrooper, puts on Hell-Day events across the country that are intended to emulate and prepare those who wish to seek a career in special forces. Veterans Day 2023 saw the event hosted at Dania Beach in Ft. Lauderdale FL, where over 40 participants showed up, alongside active Green Berets who would serve as instructors supporting the event.
